My Skills & Experience

Home: Welcome

PAST

I'm from a small town in New Mexico called Los Lunas. My whole life I have been involved with athletics, which have influenced me to be more successful in all areas of my life. I have always valued my education over everything, which came from my parents, who were both teachers. One of the biggest hardships I have faced was going through quarantine last year. It was extremely difficult to have to be in my home for such a long time without being able to see my friends or workout. Though this was a difficult time for me, i was able to learn a lot about myself and learn more of who I am as an individual.

PRESENT

Currently, I am enrolled as a student athlete at Adams State University. At the moment, I am majoring in Kinesiology in exercise science. I have learned that being a student athlete in college is significantly harder, however, I feel that I have found how to properly manage my time to do the best I cant in both school and athletics

FUTURE

In the future, I plan on going to UNM to get a PhD in Occupational therapy. After that, I want to try to get contracted by a school district to work full time as an Occupational Therapist. If this does not work out, I would like to do something in the judicial system, which I have always had an interest in.

My Adams Outcomes

Area 1: Knowledge of Human Culture

Area 2: Intellectual Think and Practical Skills

For this Area, I went to several concerts here at Adams State, and wrote this paper showing what I have learned about music and why it is how it is.

For this area, I researched the job of strength and conditioning coaching, in order to gain more of an understanding of how it worked before job shadowing so I could properly apply it.

Area 3: Personal and Social Responsibility

Area 4: Applied Learning

For area 3, I chose to put a paper I wrote for psychology. This paper taught me the proper way to write a paper, which is a skill I will use for the rest of my education

For the final area, I job shadowed our assistant strength and conditioning coach here at Adams State. The powerpoint attached shows how this project went for me.

Significant Learning Experiences

Home: Experience

PART 1

This first picture is from the RMAC Swimming and Diving Championships. This meet was our biggest of the season, and it went very well for us, with many swimmers going lifetime best times. though we had an extremely rough season, this meet showed us how much potential we have for the years to come.

PART 2

This semester, I had to attend two Adams State Music concerts. Because of the venue's restriction, I was unable to get a selfie of these performances, but this picture is the program from the first concert I viewed. This was Bianca's senior performance, and it included the playing of the snare drum, marimba, timpani, and xylophone.

PART 3

Another event I attended this year was in the Student Union Building. It was a small event to make stress balls to help with finals. here, I filled a balloon with small orbeez and mad a stress ball. this helped me a lot while studying, but it was terrible when the balloon pooped and orbeez went all over the library.

PART 4

Another event I attended was the"Cram Jam" in the La Mesa dining hall. Here, I spent time to finish studying for my final in College Algebra while enjoying some really good food.

PART 5

The final event I attended here this semester was a swim trip we took to Zapata Falls. We went on this trip to how a group of recruits one of the many amazing hikes here in the San Luis Valley, and we all had an amazing time. From this group of recruits, we have had two commit to swim here at Adams State, which will be mazing for us next year!

Experiential Learning Project

Experiential Learning Project

For my Experiential Learning Project, I decided to job shadow my assistant strength and conditioning coach/assistant swim coach, Arturo Cedillo. This was easily one of my best experiences here at Adams, as I learned a lot about the responsibilities of being an  assistant coach on poolside and in the weight room.

This is our assistant coach, Arturo. This is from RMAC Championships, where he coached us through a bunch of stretches and exercises during the meet.

One of my main goals while working on this project was to learn some of the responsibilities of being a coach while away from athletes. In this picture, Arturo was helping in creating a summer workout plan for the swim team, which I found very interesting.

Another goal I had was to learn to coach an individual while coaching an entire team. the way Arturo does this is by consistently asking if anyone needs help of if anyone does not understand how to properly do an exercise. I this picture, Arturo is explaining how to properly do a hang clean, which is a very technical olympic lift.
